Job Title: Interim Director of Finance

At VerticalScope, we are seeking a dedicated professional to cover a full-time temporary role lasting 12 months to support our financial reporting needs. This is a hybrid position that involves onsite work in downtown Toronto, with a lively and collaborative office atmosphere.

The Interim Director of Finance will play a critical role in driving the preparation of our financial reporting, working closely with the Controller to ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Key responsibilities include consolidating financial statements, preparing management discussion and analysis (MD&A), and ensuring that company procedures conform to IFRS.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare and review work related to the Company's quarterly and annual financial statements, MD&A, and related documents.
  2. Be a subject matter expert on IFRS, providing advice and guidance on technical accounting matters and preparation of documentation.
  3. Implement new IFRS standards as applicable.
  4. Act as a key liaison for the annual audit and quarterly review processes with external auditors.
  5. Execute internal controls within the reporting process.
  6. Manage and prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, certain accounting entries, and account reconciliations for review and approval.
  7. Assist with transfer pricing and provide input for monthly tax provisions and annual filings.
  8. Continually seek to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting and financial statement close process.
  9. Prepare quarterly and annual regulatory filings with the OSC and other regulatory agencies.
  10. Promote collaboration, mentorship, and knowledge transfer within the finance team.
Requirements:
  1. Five to ten years of professional accounting experience, including external financial reporting.
  2. Strong knowledge of accounting practices under IFRS, particularly related to revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, systems, and disclosures.
  3. Friendly and professional demeanor, with a can-do attitude and strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  4. Leadership and coaching capabilities, with strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  5. Advanced skills with Google Workplace, Excel, and Word.
  6. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or a related field.
  7. CPA designation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Public accounting experience at an accounting firm.
  2. Experience working in publicly traded companies.
  3. Experience working in the digital advertising or media industry.
  4. Experience with Sage Intacct and Workiva.

Salary: $100,000 - $130,000 a year
