Role Summary
RFF is on the lookout for seasoned researchers and policy professionals to spearhead collaborative research, fundraising, and policy initiatives concerning U.S. environmental justice matters. This includes evaluating the demographic and geographic implications of climate change and related policies. Candidates should possess a comprehensive understanding of the economic and social outcomes influenced by climate change, resilience strategies, and the formulation of policies that impact social equity.
The position is open to mid-career professionals holding a Doctoral degree with a minimum of five years of relevant experience post-degree, or a Master's degree with at least ten years of professional experience in environmental research and policy. Appointments will be made at various levels, including Fellow, Senior Fellow, Initiative Director, and Program Director, based on qualifications.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit to broaden our environmental justice initiatives, ensuring a significant impact on policy and decision-making. We welcome individuals with a proven history of managing team-based research and those eager to cultivate the necessary skills to become leaders in this field.
Qualifications and Experience
- A PhD in economics or a closely related discipline, with over 5 years of post-degree experience in climate policy research; OR,
- An alternative graduate degree (e.g., MA, JD) with at least 10 years of relevant experience in climate policy research and advocacy.
- Expertise in the aforementioned topics, supported by a record of research publications and/or leadership in research teams.
- Experience collaborating with government entities and a network of contacts in environmental policy.
- Proven ability to initiate and lead new research and policy engagement areas with a lasting influence on environmental decisions.
- Strong research leadership capabilities, including project and program management.
- Experience in mentoring and supervising staff, demonstrating progressive responsibilities.
- Fundraising experience with various stakeholders, including government, foundations, and corporations.
- Proficiency in strategic communications, including outreach to diverse audiences.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in developing and executing organizational strategies.
- Experience in establishing and nurturing partnerships with organizations and academic institutions.
