We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Supervisor to join our Occupational Therapy team at Fraser Health. As a Clinical Supervisor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of occupational therapy activities and staff for the assigned section.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and coordinate the work of occupational therapy staff to ensure operational requirements are met and optimal use of staff resources is achieved.
- Prepare and adjust staff work schedules and assignments according to workload.
- Ensure staffing levels are adequate to handle anticipated workload and report concerns to the Clinical Practice Leader.
- Supervise designated staff, plan and provide staff training and orientation, monitor staff performance, and conduct performance appraisals.
- Act as a clinical resource within the section by providing clinical advice and guidance to staff.
- Develop and maintain clinical practice reference manuals, policies and procedures, and implement clinical practice, regulatory, accreditation, and Fraser Health occupational therapy acute care standards.
- Participate in quality and safety activities by monitoring the effect of clinical practice changes and providing evaluation and recommendation for new or revised policies, procedures, and Fraser Health occupational therapy acute care standard.
- Provide input into service goals and objectives and collaborate with clinical areas that receive occupational therapy services.
- Assist in the preparation of operating and capital budget and make recommendations on budget requirements.
- Report and justify variances and provide recommendations for remedial action.
- Provide student supervision and evaluation and coordinate student practicum learning activities and practicum experiences.
- Oversee the ongoing monitoring, calibration and upgrade of equipment and supplies and maintain supplies and inventory of equipment for the section.
- Collaborate with other occupational therapy clinical supervisors at the site and across Fraser Health to strive for practice standardization.
- Participate in research of new equipment and provide related recommendations.
- Participate in approved occupational therapy and interprofessional research, special projects, and committees including practice councils and clinical decision support tool development.
- Current full registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC).
- Three years' recent and relevant occupational therapy experience including one year of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice within a patient and family-centered model of care.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the COTBC standards of practice and practice guidelines for clinical practitioners.
- Knowledge of occupational therapy standardized tests, measures, use of equipment and related techniques.
- Knowledge of other health care professions and their role in patient care.
- Ability to supervise, provide work direction and guidance to others, and provide effective performance evaluation.
- Ability to allocate staff assignments to meet program requirements using available resources.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to teach, coach, provide and coordinate staff and student education and orientation.
- Ability to organize, document and communicate clinical practice policy and procedures.
- Ability to prioritize, problem solve, coordinate workflow, and carry a clinical caseload as required.
- Ability to monitor operating and capital budgets.
- Ability to support evidence-based research including identifying research questions and promoting research opportunities.
- Ability to operate related equipment including relevant software applications.
