Our Product Security team is dedicated to identifying, mitigating, and preventing security vulnerabilities in the software, hardware, and services we develop. This team plays a crucial role in ensuring the secure design and implementation of technology for the Aurora Driver while continuously enhancing security assurance across all our products. We conduct technical security evaluations, threat assessments, code reviews, and vulnerability testing to identify risks and assist engineering teams in fortifying security measures. We are seeking a seasoned Security Engineer with extensive application security expertise to lead and enhance the application security framework for our autonomous vehicle platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct secure design evaluations and threat assessments, identifying and prioritizing risks and vulnerabilities.
- Review source code changes for security vulnerabilities and guide developers in implementing secure coding practices.
- Execute technical security assessments, uncover vulnerabilities, design secure systems, and create tests to drive architectural improvements.
- Oversee the vulnerability management program, including triage, prioritization, tracking, remediation, and validation of vulnerabilities.
- Utilize techniques such as reverse engineering, fuzz testing, and both static and dynamic analysis.
- Research and identify new attack vectors targeting our products and services.
- Develop and document secure operational best practices, providing security guidance to engineers and partners.
- Establish and manage a secure software development lifecycle.
- Create and oversee a bug bounty initiative.
- Research and recommend security tools and technologies to bolster defenses against emerging threats.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure robust security assurance for the Aurora Driver platform.
- Mentor both security and non-security engineers to promote security best practices in architecture, design, and development.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in writing production-quality code in languages such as C++, Golang, or Python.
- Fundamental understanding of Linux operating system security.
- Knowledge of the CWE Top 25 vulnerabilities.
- Ability to assess software and hardware components with varying levels of information.
- Strong collaboration skills with assessment teams and engineering partners.
- Effective communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience in risk assessment, threat modeling, incident response, OS hardening, vulnerability management, penetration testing, or cryptographic protocols.
- Proven experience in vulnerability discovery, design review, and code-level security evaluations.
- Technical knowledge in security engineering, network security, authentication protocols, and applied cryptography.
- Experience in implementing and documenting a comprehensive set of security technologies and processes.
- Familiarity with automotive security protocols and standards.
- Experience in Security Assurance and Secure-SDLC processes in various development environments.
- Proven ability to build and evaluate threat models and risk assessments.
- Experience in implementing best practices for cryptographic protocols and network security.
- At least 8 years of experience in a security-focused or related field.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in the robotics or automotive sector or a comparable field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant experience in offensive security, penetration testing, or red teaming.
- Experience in implementing Defense in Depth strategies to address evolving threats across software and hardware.
- Experience in evaluating the security of software, hardware, and services.
- Foundational knowledge of embedded firmware and hardware security, particularly in robotics or automotive.
- Familiarity with cloud security (AWS) and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Knowledge of Trusted Platform Modules, HSMs, and secure boot processes.
- A history of contributing to the security community through open-source projects, publications, or conference presentations.
The compensation for this role is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to base salary, the successful candidate will be eligible for performance bonuses, equity options, and comprehensive benefits.
