Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Personal Support Worker to join our team at the City of Toronto. As a Personal Support Worker, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to our residents in a long-term care setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide personal care and support to residents, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
  • Assist residents with daily activities, such as feeding, transferring, and ambulation.
  • Monitor and report on resident's emotional and physical condition, and communicate with the healthcare team as needed.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of care plans, and provide input on resident's needs and preferences.
  • Assist with the maintenance of a clean and safe environment, including cleaning, sanitizing, and restocking personal care items.
  • Provide emotional support and comfort to residents, and promote their emotional well-being.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure resident safety and implement precautionary measures as ordered by the physician.
  • Participate in organizing and implementing social and recreational programs for residents, and assist with activities such as crafts, music, and sports.
  • Report incidents and concerns to the Head Nurse or R.N., and participate in in-service education programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Bilingual in English and French, in accordance with the French Language Services Act.
  • Successful completion of a Personal Support Worker Program or Training that meets the vocational standards established by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, the National Association of Career Colleges, or the Ontario Community Support Association.
  • Experience in providing personal care to ambulant and non-ambulant residents in a long-term or rehabilitation care setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of accountability and adaptability.
  • Physical ability to lift, turn, and transfer residents manually and with a mechanical lift, as per standards and procedures.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of customer service focus, teamwork, and commitment to the Toronto Public Service values.
