Community Counselling Support Worker

About the Role:
The Meadow Lake Tribal Council is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the full-time, permanent position of Community Counselling Support Worker. This role is a critical part of our Health & Social Development Department, providing advice, support, and case management capacity in the areas of mental health services and crisis response.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide an integrated community crisis response and critical incident stress management service.
- Support individuals, families, and community well-being through a holistic family systems framework of practice that honors and respects Cree and Dene traditions, culture, language, and history.
- Offer individual, family, and group counselling and support to community members dealing with significant emotional or mental health issues.
- Promote positive mental health through information sharing, knowledge enhancement, community development, and prevention activities.
- Provide counselling and support to individuals and communities in the aftermath of community crisis, stress, or trauma.
- Support the development of community capacity for self-help and group solutions to common concerns and issues.
- Provide support to and/or arrange access to professional development and training opportunities for Wellness Workers.
Qualifications:
- Minimum:
- Certificate or Diploma in Human Services, Social Work, Community Health & Wellness.
- Possess experience in human services, community development, counselling, and facilitation.
- Preferred:
- Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Mental Health & Wellness, Psychology, or related discipline.
- Experience in First Nations Health Services.
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in counselling.
- Registered or eligible for registration with the appropriate professional association.
- Possesses or eligible for Professional Liability Insurance.
Requirements:
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills and experience with computer applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, time-management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work within a team setting and independently, with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrating initiative and adaptability, prioritizing multiple demands.
- Ability to travel extensively, sometimes with short notice, and possession of a valid driver's license.
- Preference will be given to individuals who speak either Cree or Dene.
