Job Summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to fill the role of Market Worker. This position is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the Market at the Lighthouse, working closely with the Community Ministries Program Co-ordinator to develop and implement programs that align with The Salvation Army's Mission, Vision, and Values.

Key Responsibilities
  • Connect families with Pathway of Hope Caseworker to provide comprehensive support services.
  • Collaborate with the Community Ministries Program Co-ordinator to maintain a consistent food supply and ensure volunteers have appropriate breaks.
  • Participate in Food Forest planning and development, working closely with the Community Ministries Worker and Program Co-ordinator.
  • Support Market and Food Forest Volunteers, ensuring they have the necessary resources and guidance to excel in their roles.
  • Ensure consistency in service delivery by maintaining policy and procedures, including pricing, re-stocking shelves, and client experience.
  • Submit required reports to donors and partner organizations, providing accurate and timely information.
  • Enter data into Link2Feed, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Present statistics and stories at the staff weekly meeting and to the Community Engagement Coordinator, highlighting the Market's achievements and challenges.
  • Assemble flyers highlighting grocery deals, communicating TSA Events, and sharing a message from the team.
  • Support Special Events, such as food drives and holiday trains, by scheduling, setting up, and coordinating logistics.
  • Build and maintain relationships with grocery partners, ensuring a consistent and reliable supply of food.
  • Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years in a related field.
  • Alternative combination of education and experience will be considered.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
  • Two years of prior related experience, including up to one year of work in community/social services or experience in non-profits.
  • Proven experience and advanced skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience utilizing online data databases/programs, with high efficiency in computer usage.
Skills and Capabilities
  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for The Salvation Army's Mission and purpose, and its implications related to position responsibilities.
  • Ability to work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations, and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, including Child Check (if appropriate).
  • Ability to keep confidentiality and communicate comfortably with fellow staff, volunteers, clients, and community partners.
  • Exceptional organization and timekeeping skills, with creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure, ensuring the functionality of the ministry.
