Key Responsibilities
- Serve meals to residents in accordance with their dietary needs and preferences.
- Manage portion control of food items.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed in the designated area, reporting any safety concerns or incidents to management.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely, including monitoring temperatures of dishwashers, refrigerators, and freezers.
- Deliver catering services to assigned areas, including the collection of used dishes for cleaning.
- Adhere to time constraints for meal service, maintaining appropriate food temperatures.
- Assist chefs in the preparation of raw ingredients such as salads, vegetables, and fruits, following basic cooking instructions.
- Clear dining areas, operate dishwashers, and clean cooking utensils as per established procedures.
- Support chefs with daily preparation tasks as outlined in the prep list.
- Participate in the proper storage and labeling of food supplies, including leftovers.
- Monitor and document food temperatures and quality, initiating corrective actions as necessary, and ensuring proper stock rotation.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, utensils, and personal workspaces.
- Assist in setting up for catering events, including arranging linens, equipment, and place settings as per customer specifications.
- Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes as required.
- Attend facility meetings and participate in in-service education programs as assigned.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the supervisor.
Qualifications
Completion or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program that meets the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act requirements is necessary.
- Food Handlers Certification approved by the Public Health Department is required.
- Availability to work during days, evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting is required.
- Capability to stand for extended periods is necessary.
- Current Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS) within the last six months is mandatory.
- Experience in a kitchen or food service environment is preferred.
