The University of Saskatchewan is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to engage in a pioneering research initiative focused on the development of a sophisticated machine vision system aimed at evaluating sprout damage in wheat.
Project Goals:
The primary objective of this project is to engineer a dual-camera machine vision system utilizing advanced artificial neural networks and deep learning techniques to quantify alpha-amylase activity in wheat affected by sprouting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research related to the project objectives.
- Develop an efficient classifier to link alpha-amylase activity with imaging characteristics captured by the dual-camera system.
- Construct and implement the machine vision system tailored for this research.
- Collaborate with fellow researchers and maintain organized laboratory environments.
- Assist in laboratory procedures, data analysis, and the organization of research meetings.
- Present findings and contribute to the writing of scientific publications.
Technical Requirements:
Candidates should possess a PhD in fields such as Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related area. Experience in machine vision development, image processing, and AI methodologies is highly desirable. Candidates nearing the completion of their PhD will also be considered, provided they have a clear timeline for their defense.
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficiency in programming for imaging analysis and neural network applications.
- A strong track record of publishing research in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize software for imaging analysis and deep learning tasks.
