Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Rehabilitation Assistant to join our team at Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will work under the direction of a professional nurse, physiotherapist, or occupational therapist to implement treatment plans and assist patients in achieving their rehabilitation goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Carry out designated components of a rehabilitative treatment plan under the direction of a physiotherapist or occupational therapist.
  2. Assist patients with activities of daily living, mobility, and communication.
  3. Provide functional skills training to patients and families in activities of daily living, mobility, and communication.
  4. Assist with power and manual wheelchair mobility training.
  5. Perform various tests as assigned by PT or OT, such as Berg Balance, Timed Up and Go (TUG), and six-minute walk test.
  6. Prepare and apply therapeutic treatment modalities as assigned by PT or OT.
  7. Maintain therapy equipment and supplies.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
