Reporting to the Supervising Engineer, this role oversees the distribution engineering team to execute projects for clients and our system operators. Responsibilities include validating distribution projects, allocating resources to fulfill the business strategy, and guiding the distribution project methodologies and tools.

Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership
  • Oversee the distribution engineering team, including Engineering Assistants, Draftspersons, EITs, co-op students, and summer interns.
  • Ensure adherence to the Safety Leadership Plan.
  • Provide mentorship and recognition for team members.
  • Allocate engineering and survey resources to accomplish necessary projects.
  • Develop and execute resource strategies, including business cases for new roles, recruitment of new personnel, and management of contract resources.
Engineering Excellence
  • Ensure compliance with codes, regulations, and legislation pertinent to distribution projects and engineering.
  • Validate distribution projects.
  • Authenticate distribution North of 60 (N60) standard prints.
  • Develop N60 standards to ensure accuracy and provide solutions for Construction and Operations.
  • Offer engineering support to the Operations and Generation teams as needed.
Process and Project Oversight
  • Design and implement distribution engineering processes.
  • Manage joint use processes and projects.
  • Deliver completed construction packages, including material lists, validated documents, and permits to the construction team.
  • Collaborate with construction and operations teams to enhance capital planning and execution processes.
  • Refine the distribution project processes and tools as necessary.
Capital Project Support
  • Assist in the business planning process by providing estimates and detailed project scopes.
  • Support the General Rate Application (GRA) process.
  • Manage CEARs and PCRs for distribution projects.
  • Engage with external stakeholders (City of Whitehorse, Yukon Government, municipalities, telecommunications companies, etc.) to ensure effective execution of capital projects.
  • Prepare business cases as required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation is mandatory.
  • 5-7 years of direct experience in the operations and design of electrical distribution systems and project management within a utility context.
  • Proven leadership capabilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical distribution systems and utility operations.
  • Strong analytical abilities.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Commitment to achieving results.
  • A sense of adventure and a readiness to innovate.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal).
  • Experience with AEUC, CSA, CEC, OH&S regulations.
