Job Title: Supervisor, Resident Care

The City of Cornwall is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supervisor, Resident Care to join our team at the Glen Stor Dun Lodge. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for leading and supporting a team of Personal Support Workers (PSWs) to deliver exceptional resident-centered care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and support a team of PSWs to ensure the delivery of high-quality resident care that meets the standards of excellence.
  • Ensure the proper execution of care routines, provide support and direction to PSW staff, and verify completion of documentation.
  • Discuss resident needs with PSW staff, liaise with Registered Staff and other team members to ensure a coordinated service approach.
  • Recruit, hire, and discipline PSW personnel in conjunction with the Director of Care and Nursing Supervisors.
  • Stay up-to-date with changing regulations, legislation, practices, and procedures.
  • Review and monitor daily reports, make rounds of the home to ensure care is in line with guidelines, and address resident needs.
  • Review resident incidents, complete incident reports, investigate complaints, and issue corrective actions.
  • Liaise closely with the Nutrition Care team and other inter-disciplinary teams as appropriate.
  • Ensure maximum safety for residents and staff, following policy and procedures related to Fall Prevention, Wound Care, Continence Care, Restraint Use, Responsive Behaviour Management, and Pain Management.
  • Deal with emergency situations through professional response and communication.
  • Maintain nursing supplies inventory, review usage reports, and anticipate needed supplies.
  • Work with the Staff Development Officer to encourage and monitor participation in core education for PSW staff.
  • Be willing to work flexible hours and be on call for emergencies, and cover registered staff shifts in exceptional circumstances.
  • Assist the leadership team with Continuous Quality Improvement projects/audits.
  • Complete scheduling approvals, maintain department schedules, and coordinate coverage for unplanned vacancies.
Requirements:
  • Supervisory experience with exemplary communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with residents, staff, teams, and community partners.
  • Possession of an RPN license.
  • 3 years or more of healthcare experience, preferably supervisory, with a deep knowledge of the Long-Term Care Home system.
  • A motivational leader and strong team player who promotes resident and family-centered care and engagement.
  • Highly organized and comfortable working in a constantly shifting environment, responding to changes in resident needs.
  • Able to work effectively under pressure and adhere to deadlines.
  • Advanced experience with Point Click Care Software and/or other similar EHR software is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative Leadership Team.
  • Ideally, prior supervisory experience within a unionized setting and knowledge of what it takes to uncover talent and innovation as you build and inspire a highly engaged large team.
  • Working knowledge of relevant employment and Long-Term Care Home statutes.
  • A valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle are required.
  • A proven track record of effectively handling complaints and resolving conflicts.
  • Demonstrated efforts to continually develop and upgrade your skills.
  • Bilingualism is an asset.
