Position Overview

Reporting to the Plant Finance Manager, you will be integral to our financial operations, overseeing and directing cost accounting activities. Your primary responsibilities will include establishing and sustaining the standard cost framework, monitoring inventory levels, and generating comprehensive inventory reports, utilizing Sage 300 and Misys. You will collaborate with various departments to ensure precise and prompt cost analysis and reporting, providing critical insights to support the organization's financial objectives.

As a key member of the cost management division, your responsibilities will encompass the management of the standard cost framework, conducting cost variance analyses, preparing operational budgets and forecasts, and generating monthly financial reports.

Leveraging Sage 300 and Misys Manufacturing System, you will ensure timely and accurate cost analysis and management reporting. Your role will involve close collaboration with Manufacturing, Procurement, and Materials Departments regarding daily operations and cost reporting procedures.

You will support cross-functional teams by delivering valuable insights that align with the company's financial strategies.

Major Responsibilities

Standard Cost Management

Develop and maintain the standard cost framework for all products, including both domestically sourced and internationally procured items, while managing the annual budgeted standard cost cycle. Create and maintain the Sage and Misys Item Master and establish the Bill of Materials for finished goods. Regularly review and update standard costs to reflect market conditions and manufacturing process changes.

Inventory Control

Oversee inventory valuation and reconciliation to ensure accuracy. Monitor and maintain inventory reporting to minimize carrying costs while ensuring uninterrupted production. Manage the Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) system.

Cost Analysis

Analyze cost variances and deviations from standard costs, providing insights and recommendations for enhancements. Prepare cost reports and analyses for management, identifying opportunities for cost reduction and process optimization.

Budgeting and Forecasting

Collaborate with finance, procurement, and sourcing teams to prepare and manage cost-related budgets and forecasts. Provide accurate financial data for decision-making and financial planning.

Compliance and Reporting

Continuously identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in cost accounting and inventory management.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with purchasing, production, and supply chain teams to ensure alignment and accuracy in cost data. Assist Sales and Logistics teams with invoicing challenges. Collaborate with IT to optimize the use of Sage 300 and Misys in cost accounting processes.

Compliance and Reporting

Prepare and submit financial reports and statements, focusing on monthly inventory reporting and operational cost planning. Ensure adherence to Canadian accounting standards and regulations.

Skills and Qualifications

7-10 years of experience in cost accounting, including 3-5 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with a preference for a major in Cost Accounting. 7-10 years of experience with standard costing using Sage 300/Misys or a similar system. Familiarity with multi-currency financial systems. Experience in standard costing within a manufacturing environment is essential. Experience in upgrading, converting, and implementing new manufacturing systems. Knowledge of Bin tracking and RFID automation. Experience managing inventory across multiple physical locations, including third-party logistics in North America, Europe, and Asia. Experience overseeing annual financial audits and liaising with external auditors. Proven expertise in cost accounting within a manufacturing context, preferably under Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or the Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE). Strong understanding of Bill of Materials and standard cost accounting principles. Proficiency in utilizing Sage 300 and Misys for cost accounting purposes. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective cross-functional collaboration. Solid knowledge of internal controls. Attention to detail with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Familiarity with international procurement and managing costs in various currencies. Strong execution and prioritization capabilities.
