Position Overview:

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Academic Officer, the Finance Administrator will oversee the management, control, planning, and organization of financial accounting activities, administrative functions, and human resource management at Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig. This role includes responsibilities such as financial reporting, cash flow monitoring, and the development and maintenance of best practices and internal control systems, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant laws.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with the President/CAO to manage the organization's financial operations, including the execution of financial and human resource strategies, annual budgets, audits, and external report submissions.
  2. Assist the President/CAO with oversight of internal operations, policy development, and implementation.
  3. Oversee daily accounting activities and accounting software, specifically the General Ledger, Accounts Receivables, Accounts Payable, and Payroll subledgers, ensuring timely processing of transactions.
  4. Ensure accuracy in transactions and timely posting to the General Ledger, including the reconciliation of subledgers and monthly bank reconciliations.
  5. Coordinate and implement financial and accounting functions, including banking and investment strategies, and develop requests for proposals for auditing firms.
  6. Ensure all financial/accounting activities comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  7. Prepare monthly financial statements or reports, ensuring data integrity.
  8. Manage contracts and TPA agreement commitments, ensuring compliance with budgeting and timely report submissions.
  9. Implement and ensure adherence to internal financial and human resources policies and procedures, assisting with revisions as necessary.
  10. Oversee payroll and employee benefits programs, including updating employee data and ensuring new employee enrollment.
  11. Assist with recruitment and onboarding of staff and contractors as needed.
  12. Supervise finance staff, including part-time, full-time, and contract employees.
  13. Provide support to the President/CAO for overall operations and assist the Board Treasurer and Board of Directors as required.
  14. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Post-secondary education degree/diploma in business accounting or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a leadership role in finance.
  2. Extensive knowledge of financial and accounting procedures, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  3. Proven experience with General Ledger, Accounts Receivables, Accounts Payable, and Payroll modules.
  4. Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite, QuickBooks, and Payroll Software.
  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Excellent organizational, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  7. Effective time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
  8. Strong interpersonal skills, capable of working independently and as part of a team.
  9. High ethical standards with the ability to maintain confidentiality of financial data.
  10. Must undergo a criminal record check/Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment.
