About the Role

Giant Tiger is seeking a highly skilled Merchandise Financial Planning Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Merchandise Financial Planning department, you will be responsible for developing and executing financial plans that drive sales, gross margin, and inventory optimization.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead Financial Planning Team: Oversee a team of planners in the execution of annual financial strategies to optimize sales, gross margin, and inventory.
  2. Forecasting and Analysis: Lead the accurate weekly forecasting of sales and margin to identify issues, risks, and opportunities to financial plans, providing recommendations and executing actions to course correct.
  3. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate and challenge Merchants, Supply Chain, Replenishment, and Store Operations partners on current business performance.
  4. Senior Leadership Team Visibility: Provide visibility to Senior Leadership Team on current business results, risks, and opportunities.
  5. Merchandise Financial Planning: Develop merchandise financial plans that support Giant Tiger's long-term (2-5 years) strategy in partnership with General Merchandise Managers.
  6. Process Improvement: Provide recommendations and changes to current processes and KPI targets.
  7. Inventory Strategy: Develop annual inventory strategy for seasonal businesses and ensure execution of markdowns and promotional plans to end seasonal categories on plan.
  8. Post-Mortem Analysis: Oversee the Merchandise Financial Planning team in preparing post-mortems, ad hoc analysis, and integrating learnings into current and future plans.
  9. Planning Tools: Ensure that planning tools such as TM1 and the e-markdown system support the needs of the team and business, making recommendations on enhancements.
Requirements and Qualifications
  1. Education: Post-secondary education, preferably in Business.
  2. Experience: 5-8 years related experience in the retail industry, preferably with a national retailer.
  3. People Management: 3-5 years of people management experience.
  4. Knowledge and Skills: Extensive knowledge of retail Merchandise Financial Planning process and metrics, strong analytical skills, ability to identify trends, make recommendations, and problem-solve.
  5. Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively, interact, and build relationships across all levels of the organization and with key partners.
  6. Management Skills: Strong management skills (coaching, development, and training skills) that build effective teams.
  7. Technical Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products.
Assets
  1. Business Intelligence Software: Experience with business intelligence software.
  2. Large Retailer Experience: Experience working in a large, multi-site national retailer.
  3. Bilingualism: Bilingual (English/French).
