The Position

We are in search of a strategic and proactive leader to guide the organization towards achieving financial excellence. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO will oversee the planning, directing, and coordination of all financial and accounting operations. This hands-on role will prioritize timely and precise financial reporting and compliance, enhancing financial processes, leading various financial initiatives, managing cash flow, securing funding, and pursuing grant opportunities. The CFO will work closely with other members of the leadership team to provide unique insights and innovative solutions while establishing and maintaining strategic relationships with key stakeholders.

We seek an individual with a strong background and enthusiasm for supporting small businesses, entrepreneurial ventures, and early-stage startups.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role encompass, but are not limited to:

  1. Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and meeting the expectations of investors and stakeholders.
  2. Develop and manage cash flow forecasts, adjusting as necessary based on evolving information and circumstances.
  3. Collaborate with the team to lead the financial budgeting process, present findings to the board, and monitor organizational performance.
  4. Lead and support current and future capital funding rounds, grants, project financing, and funding scenarios.
  5. Manage banking relationships, adapting as business needs evolve.
  6. Supervise operational accounting functions, including accounts receivable and collections, as well as procurement and accounts payable.
  7. Provide accurate insights into project financial performance and cost structures, offering guidance to enhance business development efforts.
  8. Formulate and implement financial strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with the company's objectives and growth plans.
  9. Establish and maintain robust internal controls to protect company assets.
  10. Manage cash flow and liquidity, optimizing working capital to ensure adequate funding for operations and strategic initiatives.
  11. Assess and evaluate financial investment opportunities, providing recommendations to maximize returns while minimizing risks.
  12. Collaborate with senior leadership to deliver financial insights and recommendations that support strategic decision-making.
  13. Communicate financial results, trends, and forecasts to the executive team, board of directors, and other stakeholders.
  14. Work with external accountants to finalize year-end reporting and tax compliance.
  15. Evaluate and enhance processes as necessary.
  16. Collaborate with the CEO and Board to prepare and present investment opportunities to potential investors.

Candidate Profile

Professional Qualifications

While no individual will possess every quality, the ideal candidate will demonstrate many of the following professional qualifications and personal attributes:

  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, with a professional accounting designation. Other impressive combinations of experience and education may also be considered.
  2. A minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience in the industry. Preference will be given to those familiar with dynamic, emerging enterprises.
  3. Proven experience in raising capital from investors and lenders.
  4. Financial management experience with a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and proficiency in accounting software, such as QuickBooks and MS Office.
  5. Strong business acumen and the ability to respond swiftly and effectively to changing circumstances.
