Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Co-op student to join our team at Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC) as a Plant Balancing Co-op. This exciting opportunity will provide you with hands-on experience in daily and monthly material balancing, working closely with our site Plant Balance Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily and monthly material balancing for the HPC complex and report to Operations, Commercial, and Accounting Teams
  • Analyze and investigate measurement variances, working closely with Operations and implement corrective actions
  • Develop and implement engineering calculations and methodology to support commercial and accounting obligations
  • Manage Corporate Pi historian to ensure quality of data consumption and troubleshoot metered data calculation configurations
  • Analyze and reconcile losses within the facility and track plant KPIs
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure all departments' business requirements are addressed within the PBVA system, dashboards, and reports
  • Develop and generate reports for mass balancing, KPIs, executive, regulatory, and miscellaneous operations reports as required

Requirements

  • Working toward a degree in Chemical Engineering (4th year)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, working knowledge of Power BI
  • Proficient in use of historian software and trending tools
  • Excellent oral/written communication and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform while challenged by multiple demands and changing priorities
  • Able to quickly develop a good understanding of the operating process
  • Able to understand and interpret schematics, plant process flows, measurement practices, and changes in units of measure

Work Environment

This is a 6-12 month Co-op position, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. The location is Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC), Strathcona County, Alberta. As this position is identified as security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
