Job Summary:
The Operating Room Technician (ORT) plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the surgical department at Sault Area Hospital. As a key member of the OR team, the ORT is responsible for maintaining a safe and efficient operating room environment, handling equipment and supplies, and supporting the surgical team in providing high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the surgical team to prepare the operating room for procedures, ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
- Handle and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies, adhering to strict sterile and aseptic techniques.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of the operating room, including the preparation and transportation of instruments and supplies.
- Support the surgical team in providing patient care, including preparing patients for procedures and assisting with post-operative care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
- Maintain accurate records and reports, as required.
Requirements:
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated competency with patient care requirements and specialized equipment, including sterile and aseptic techniques, surgical anatomy, and surgical instruments.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with the surgical team and other healthcare professionals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a surgical department or similar environment.
- Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures, including infection control and patient safety protocols.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to patient-centered care.
