As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse in Radiation Therapy is responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care, which includes patient evaluations and educational support for patients and their families regarding treatment processes and potential side effects, in alignment with established protocols and care standards. This role encompasses providing perioperative care to patients undergoing surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct nursing care by conducting thorough patient assessments, reviewing medical histories, and formulating individualized nursing care plans.
  • Serve as a scrub nurse and/or circulating nurse during surgical interventions in the Brachytherapy Procedure Area.
  • Manage patient admissions, transfers, and discharges in accordance with organizational policies and nursing directives.
  • Keep accurate patient records by documenting relevant health information, nursing observations, and care evaluations.
  • Guide patients in understanding their treatment plans and inform them about available services within the organization and community.
  • Ensure a safe environment for patients and staff by adhering to safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development by updating clinical knowledge and collaborating with colleagues to achieve professional growth goals.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Nursing program with current registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Graduate of a specialized nursing program in operating room procedures or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills:

  • Strong clinical knowledge and application in practice.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize patient care effectively.
  • Proficiency in CPR techniques and intravenous skills.
  • Commitment to understanding and promoting Indigenous cultural safety and reconciliation efforts.
  • Awareness of the social and historical contexts affecting Indigenous communities.
