Job Title: Research Associate, Forest Ecology

We are seeking a highly motivated and science-minded individual to join our research team at the Centre for Boreal Research (CBR) at NAIT. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a subset of applied research projects, including conceptualization, proposal development, project execution, and technical deliverable preparation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducting applied research projects using one or more of the following: literature reviews, field experiments, and data analysis.
  • Managing and responding to project-related emails and coordinating with centre staff, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Supervising summer research assistants and planning and coordinating project activities.
  • Preparing technical reports, proposals, and research extension products.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in ecology with a focus on native plant communities.
  • At least 5 years of related experience, with post-doctoral experience considered an asset.
  • Experience in experimental design and execution, as well as training and use of R software.
  • Class 5 license with a clean driver's abstract.
Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced and busy team setting, with a mix of field work, lab, and desk-based work. The position requires extensive outdoor work on uneven terrain and in remote locations, as well as the ability to work independently and lead junior team members.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in a working environment that presents a wide variety of technical and operational challenges, with a strong background in forest ecology and experience with R statistical software.
