Department: Health Services - Long Term Care

Job Overview:

The Activation Therapist plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents through tailored recreational programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement specialized programs aimed at boosting residents' self-esteem and overall well-being.
  • Conduct thorough assessments to identify the recreational and leisure needs of residents.
  • Coordinate and deliver effective outreach services to engage residents.
  • Support the Rehabilitation Assistant in executing restorative care programs and activities.
  • Foster positive relationships and maintain effective communication with residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Participate in ongoing education sessions, staff meetings, and workshops to enhance professional development.
  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Fulfill all responsibilities as outlined in the Activation Therapist job description.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Gerontology, or a related field.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification is mandatory.
  • Proficient computer skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated teaching abilities to effectively guide residents and their families.
  • Ability to work independently, showcasing innovation and strong organizational skills.
  • Physical capability to perform all assigned duties.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Food Handler Certification is required.
  • Smart Serve Certificate is necessary.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks and manage scheduling effectively.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
