The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the effective coordination, supervision, and management of staff, facilities, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the daily operations of the Animal Resource Centre, ensuring compliance with institutional policies, provincial and federal legislation.
  • Supervise and manage staff, providing guidance and support to ensure the care and management of animals.
  • Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance animal health and welfare.
  • Collaborate with researchers and users of the facilities to establish and maintain effective communication.
  • Manage facility operations, including maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.
  • Develop and manage budgets, financial plans, and reports.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and maintain accreditation standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Science or a recognized equivalent.
  • 3-year Community College diploma in Veterinary Technology or a recognized equivalent.
  • Registered Laboratory Animal Technician (RLAT) Certification with the Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Science (CALAS) required.
  • Certification as a Certified Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR) post-hire required.
  • At least 6 years of practical and related experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of legislation governing the use of research animals in Canada.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian Biosafety guidelines.
  • Excellent scientific and technical background with ingenuity and flexibility to allow for successful problem-solving.
  • Superior communication skills, written and verbal.

Working Conditions

Monday to Friday, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
