Position Overview
About the Opportunity:
Cyient is seeking a dedicated Field Technician to join our Telecommunications Business Unit. The successful candidate will engage in Outside Plant (OSP) field data gathering. This role involves visiting various job sites daily to assess and document current field conditions related to telecom poles, aerial and underground structures, as well as street and right-of-way measurements for both existing and future fiber optic designs and equipment placements. You will be responsible for conducting field surveys (ISP/OSP) and meticulously recording observations through notes, photographs, and sketches of on-site findings. Your contributions will support Design Specialists by providing critical insights regarding potential cable routes and site surveys. Additionally, you will conduct thorough research on utilities and right-of-way, interpret utility plans, Department of Transportation records, property and easement data, civil design blueprints, and survey documents. You will also verify GIS maps and drawings against information gathered from various sources, including satellite imagery.
Travel Requirements:
This position requires extensive travel, up to 90% of the time, often for prolonged periods. The company will cover food and lodging expenses, and mileage reimbursement will be provided for personal vehicle use.
Key Responsibilities:
Visit multiple job sites daily to evaluate proposed fiber facilities and telecom infrastructure for field accuracy, suggesting modifications as necessary. Capture field measurements and photographs of utility poles, equipment, cables, and proposed equipment locations. Collaborate with the permitting team to review and submit encroachment permits to relevant state and municipal authorities, including transportation departments, railroads, and pipeline operators. Perform outdoor work daily, adapting to various weather conditions.Qualifications:
A minimum of 1 year of experience in utility construction within an outside plant setting is preferred. Familiarity with telecom and utility poles, as well as MDU/BAU field surveys is advantageous. At least 1 year of experience with existing and proposed telecom equipment. 1+ years of experience in reading and interpreting utility work prints. 1+ years of experience with aerial, underground, or buried telecom infrastructure. 1+ years of experience with IKE data collection is preferred. A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.Skills & Competencies:
Proficient in applications related to telecommunications, with strong communication skills for interacting with utility and governmental agencies (city, county, state, and federal), consultants, and engineering firms.
