Railway Welding Supervisor

Reporting to the Track Supervisor, the Welding Supervisor is responsible for executing daily operations while achieving corporate and project objectives related to safety, quality, profitability, and scheduling, ultimately ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction. The Welding Supervisor oversees the welding and repair of railway track assets in a demanding construction environment, utilizing stick and wire-feed welding techniques along with grinding processes.

Starting compensation is $37.95 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:
- Promote and uphold a strong safety culture while adhering to industry standards and company policies.
- Act as the on-site leader for the crew, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.
- Review job specifications, prepare necessary equipment and materials, and execute repairs promptly.
- Conduct railway-related track repairs on various assets, including specialized track components, using appropriate welding and grinding methods.
- Identify and replace defective parts as needed.
- Utilize cutting tools such as air arcs and torches to meet fabrication requirements.
- Inspect work pieces for defects and measure them to confirm compliance with specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs as required.
- Detect equipment malfunctions or material defects and inform supervisors accordingly.
- Operate machinery in accordance with safety regulations.
- Maintain CROR qualifications and obtain necessary track protection to perform daily tasks in line with company and customer standards.
- Conduct daily site reviews and collaborate with supervisors to assess ongoing work and potential hazards, ensuring effective communication through task-specific briefings.
- Take responsibility for crew performance related to company objectives, safety audits, and adherence to policies, initiating necessary follow-up actions such as training and mentoring.
- Lead daily briefings with the crew to discuss safety, production goals, performance feedback, and any hazards.
- Safely operate company vehicles and ensure all maintenance and inspections are completed daily.
- Commit to safety by modeling best practices and enforcing company policies.
- Manage time-sensitive tasks effectively to achieve daily production goals safely and in accordance with industry standards.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
General Responsibilities:
- Train, mentor, and inspire team members.
- Inspect equipment, diagnose issues, and notify supervisors of repair needs.
- Maintain records and prepare reports on maintenance activities, including daily work orders and time entries.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of welding experience in a heavy industrial setting is preferred.
- Strong understanding of welding materials and properties of various metals.
- Proficient in MIG and stick welding techniques.
- Mechanical aptitude is essential.
- Ability to interpret assembly drawings and detailed welding plans.
- Capable of assessing problems and recommending effective repair solutions.
- Familiarity with safety policies and regulations.
- Knowledge of special track work to ensure compliance with repair specifications.
- Valid Ontario class G driver's license is required; Class DZ is an asset.
- Exceptional welding and grinding skills, with the ability to identify and correct welder faults through training.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Work is conducted outdoors along the railway right-of-way.
- Frequent work in flat welding positions within a live rail environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, lift, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
- Work in noisy environments.
- Exposure to live tracks, trains, and high voltage.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts and respond to emergency needs.
