Job Summary
The Protecting Foreman is a critical role within RailWorks Corporation, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of trains through construction zones and active railway property. This position requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as a deep understanding of railway operating rules and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily job briefings with contractors to ensure they understand site-specific instructions and safety protocols.
- Review work sites daily to identify potential hazards and consult with supervisors and contractors to mitigate risks.
- Set up, reposition, and dismantle railway signals (flags) at designated locations.
- Communicate effectively with work groups, flagmen, and rail traffic controllers to ensure safe and efficient train movement.
- Operate company vehicles and perform daily maintenance and inspections.
- Perform special duties as assigned by the Capital Supervisor.
- Document work activities and maintain accurate records.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the railway industry.
- Track Inspection Guidelines certification is an asset.
- Certified in Canadian Railway Operating Rules.
- Ability to read and understand specific documents, including schedules and standard railway plans.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient use of computers and tablets.
- Valid Ontario class G driver's license.
Physical Requirements
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Frequently stand, walk, climb, balance, lift, and bend on uneven terrain.
- Exposed to loud noise and live track/trains.
- Ability to work rotating shifts and independently or as part of a team.
