What is the Opportunity?

The Royal Bank of Canada is seeking a highly skilled Senior Application Support Specialist to join our Technology and Operations division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical support and maintenance for multiple Windows and Linux applications in Finance and Audit IT.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate, resolve, and report on complex technical issues requiring business application understanding.
  • Work closely with business clients to understand priorities and impact and provide timely and accurate reports to management and end-users on status of critical systems processes.
  • Proactively identify and act on emerging issues to resolve them in the short and long term.
  • Make recommendations on process improvements and enhance system and support documentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with development and SRE teams by identifying defects and opportunities for efficiencies through automation and enhancements.
  • Actively participate in Agile development projects to represent the interests of maintaining Production application stability and adhering to Production readiness standards.
  • Work on IT Risk deliverables: participate in DR exercise, help in DR planning and design; interacting with various auditors and make sure that applications function according to published RBC IT Risk Standards.
  • Provide direction, expertise, feedback, coaching, and development to build the capabilities of more junior staff.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a 24*7 production support role and supporting multiple applications.
  • 5+ years of experience in Windows & Linux technology platform, Hadoop, Hive, MSSQL & Oracle Server, Shell & SQL scripts.
  • Strong analytical skill set and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, apply critical and strategic thinking to issues, and manage deadlines while multi-tasking amongst different priorities.
  • Have working knowledge of ITIL Standards, Methodologies, SDLC, & audit requirements.
  • Experience working with teams across various geographies and is familiar and comfortable with Change Management activities.
  • BS / Computer Science degree or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Zeke scheduler & kdb+
  • Java, Scala, Powershell and Python experience
  • Working experience with ServiceNow Tool
  • Understanding of SRE concepts
  • Knowledge about IFRS17 standards
  • Experience in supporting IBM datastage applications
