DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conducting both routine and advanced testing procedures in areas such as Chemistry, Hematology, and Blood Banking; executing pre-analytical tasks including phlebotomy, specimen handling, and ECGs; managing workflow to uphold performance benchmarks for both quantity and quality; monitoring, diagnosing, and reporting issues related to methodologies and equipment to the Laboratory Supervisor; maintaining cleanliness of tools and the immediate workspace; adhering to established safety and infection control protocols; engaging in training programs for students and staff as necessary; and undertaking additional responsibilities as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
*Certification from the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences (CSMLS);
*Active registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO);
*Current theoretical and practical knowledge in Hematology, Blood Transfusion, and Biochemistry;
*Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interconnections;
*Experience and technical proficiency with electronic and/or mechanical equipment essential for conducting routine and specialized tests;
*Strong problem-solving abilities with the capacity to identify issues, determine root causes, generate alternatives, and implement solutions;
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
*Ability to exercise independent judgment and deductive reasoning with meticulous attention to detail;
*Capacity to perform effectively under pressure in emergency scenarios;
*Proven organizational skills with the ability to evaluate requests and prioritize them to ensure outstanding patient care;
*Physically capable of frequent bending, lifting, and turning throughout the shift to complete tasks;
*Recent experience in a Core Laboratory is preferred;
*Must maintain a satisfactory performance record;
*Demonstrated commitment to core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork, and Joy;
*Understanding of and commitment to comprehensive safety programs and practices, including staff, patient, and environmental safety, along with participation in regular in-service training sessions; and
*Proven good attendance record with the ability to sustain this standard.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment terms are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.

Successful external candidates must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector.
