Position Overview
The role involves delivering expert nursing care to patients, which includes the administration of biologics or other specialized pharmaceutical treatments. The nurse will enhance patient health by conducting thorough health assessments prior to treatment, reviewing patient histories, and collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to provide effective medical therapies or self-administration education in an outpatient environment.
Utilizing critical thinking, therapeutic communication, and clinical judgment, the nurse will assess, plan, implement, educate, and evaluate patients' health conditions throughout their treatment journey.
Clinic Operations: Shifts range from 8 to 12 hours. The clinic operates Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluating patient health status through a pre-screening process that includes contraindications and both objective and subjective data to determine eligibility for medical therapies. Inserting peripheral intravenous lines or establishing access via central lines while adhering to sterile techniques and best practices. Reviewing patient records and previous treatment documentation to gain insights into patient history. Preparing and administering biologic or oncology medications in accordance with manufacturer and Health Canada guidelines. Complying with provincial nursing standards and guidelines for medication administration. Identifying patient care needs; providing education and counseling. Encouraging patient independence; addressing inquiries and educating patients about their conditions and medications. Documenting patient care activities and managing records in line with company policies. Upholding nursing philosophies and standards of care. Adhering to patient-specific medical directives for treatment and management of adverse reactions. Reporting adverse events following manufacturer requirements, Health Canada regulations, and company policy. Monitoring medical therapies and conducting post-administration assessments. Staying informed about medical therapies as per Health Canada's Product Monograph. Keeping abreast of company policies and procedures. Participating in drug and clinic audits as needed. Following drug accountability protocols as per company policy and standard operating procedures. Actively engaging in the training and mentoring of new clinic personnel. Completing required training on products, services, policies, technology, quality assurance, and communication. Upholding quality, safety, and infection control standards to ensure safe nursing practices.General Duties
Ensuring continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs. Creating a compassionate environment and supporting patients. Safeguarding patient confidentiality. Maintaining a safe and clean working environment by adhering to procedures, rules, and regulations. Ensuring proper equipment operation through preventive maintenance. Managing clinic medical and stationary supply levels. Keeping professional and technical knowledge current by attending educational workshops. Fostering cooperative relationships among healthcare teams through effective communication and problem-solving. Contributing to team efforts and corporate objectives.Minimum Qualifications
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, degree or equivalent. Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of British Columbia, Canada, in good standing.Essential Competencies
Infusion certification or equivalent experience is essential. Current CPR certification. ACLS certification is an asset. Annual practice membership with the provincial College of Nurses Association must be maintained in good standing. Ability to work at various clinics as required. If applicable, maintain yearly professional liability insurance (for Ontario applicants). Critical care designation is advantageous. Professional designation as a Registered Nurse. Strong assessment and clinical decision-making abilities. Proficient clinical, nursing, and listening skills. Capacity to work independently and efficiently, particularly in emergency situations. Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, and stakeholders. Ability to thrive in a dynamic and rapidly evolving environment. Team-oriented mindset. Proficient in a computerized environment (e.g., computer, MS Office, email, and electronic patient records).
