Position Overview

Bonaventure Support Services is a progressive and growing social service organization located on Vancouver Island. We provide a comprehensive array of services, support, and opportunities for adults with diverse abilities. Our approach is centered around the individual, focusing on goal-oriented options and full community participation. The Community Inclusion Support Worker fosters and maintains a warm, personal connection with each individual, encouraging the involvement of family, friends, and neighbors in their lives. A vital aspect of this role involves assisting individuals in their physical, social, emotional, recreational, economic, educational, and vocational skill development. As a Community Inclusion Support Worker, you will work under the guidance of the Program Manager and collaborate with a team to facilitate friendships, activities, new opportunities, and meaningful community contributions. You will be responsible for all operational elements of the program as outlined in the Job Description.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal care, health management, behavioral support, nutrition, recreation, social engagement, vocational training, education, and environmental needs as detailed in their person-centered plans (PCP).
  • Provide support and advocate for choice, while assisting individuals in their physical, social, emotional, recreational, economic, educational, and vocational skill development.
  • Comply with relevant legislation and regulations, including the Motor Vehicle Act, CLBC, MCFD, CARF, WorkSafe-BC, and Employment Standards.
  • Collaborate with MCFD, CLBC, VIHA, DDMHT, HSCL, Behavior Consultants, and the Bonaventure Leadership team.
  • Adhere to the Policies and Procedures of Bonaventure Support Services while exemplifying our Mission Statement, Values, and Code of Ethics.
  • Demonstrate a high level of tolerance and respect for each supported individual's unique personality and challenges, while promoting their dignity and rights.
  • Perform all duties safely and efficiently, upholding health and safety requirements and reporting any concerns.
  • Support and foster a positive working relationship with family members and team colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Preferred formal education (Diploma or Degree, CSW, RCA, SIVA, etc.) and/or relevant work experience with individuals with diverse abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A genuine desire and ability to work with individuals with diverse abilities, demonstrating personal suitability to promote dignity, independence, and individuality.
  • Capability to work independently in a high-pressure environment.
  • Good health and physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Required Documentation

  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License.
  • RCMP Criminal Record Check (Schedule A - Employer will file).
  • First Aid with CPR Certificate.
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate.
  • Proof of COVID-19 Full Vaccination or Exemption.
  • Signed Bonaventure Hire Package.
  • 3 References - (One must be a most recent employer).
  • Physician's Declaration.
  • TB Screen.
