Position Overview

Join our team as a Registered Nurse at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking dedicated Registered Nurses to become part of the Operating Rooms team. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact in patient care.

Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse - Critical Care/Emergency/PACU include:

Delivering urgent nursing care to patients of all ages with diverse symptoms in unpredictable environments, as well as caring for critically ill patients on life-support systems and those recovering from anesthesia. Acting as a vital member of the emergency response team, stabilizing and resuscitating trauma victims, and preparing for disaster scenarios. Enhancing the quality of life from the perspective of patients and their families. Collaborating and consulting with other healthcare professionals. Demonstrating leadership and expertise in nursing practices. Maintaining and advancing clinical skills and knowledge. Participating in hospital committees, teams, and approved research initiatives as required.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) is mandatory. Completion of a recognized critical care nursing program or an advanced program in emergency care nursing, or two years of recent relevant experience.

Knowledge & Skills

Extensive knowledge of nursing theories and practices within a patient-centered care framework. Familiarity with BCCNM's standards for nursing practice. Proven ability to develop and implement care plans aligned with patient and family priorities. Strong assessment and interviewing skills. Ability to respond appropriately to patient needs and adjust to unforeseen circumstances. Experience in managing trauma in emergency situations. Capacity to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to counsel and educate patients and their families based on their needs. Physical capability to perform the duties of the role. Proficiency in using medical equipment relevant to the clinical setting. Basic computer skills for operating patient care information systems.
