Position Overview

The County of Hastings is seeking a temporary full-time Nursing Director for a duration of approximately 10 months. This leadership role reports directly to the Home Administrator and is pivotal in delivering safe, resident-centered, and high-quality care within the Long-Term Care Home. The Nursing Director is tasked with ensuring adherence to Ministry regulations and County policies while overseeing the planning, organization, direction, coordination, and evaluation of care services provided in the facility.

Core Responsibilities

  • Embrace and promote the mission, vision, and values of Hastings/Quinte Long-Term Care services, emphasizing a person-centered care philosophy.
  • Formulate, interpret, and ensure departmental goals align with Ministry standards, legislation, and internal policies.
Leadership and Management
  • Engage in the recruitment process by selecting candidates, conducting interviews, and recommending hires.
  • Participate in performance evaluations, investigations, and staff coaching/disciplinary actions.
  • Work collaboratively within the framework of collective agreements, fostering positive relations with bargaining units.
  • Facilitate in-service training and encourage ongoing professional development among team members.
  • Supervise in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and established nursing practices.
  • Utilize effective interpersonal skills to empower team members in enhancing quality care.
  • Participate in relevant committees and lead departmental meetings.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with all home leaders to ensure holistic care delivery.
  • Promote positive interactions among team members and residents.
  • Coordinate with community partners and resources to enhance care services.
  • Communicate effectively with families and external agencies regarding resident health concerns.
  • Ensure timely reporting of significant health changes to the Home Administrator.
  • Guarantee that all residents receive optimal nursing care in compliance with established policies.
  • Oversee the medication administration program, ensuring proper control and safekeeping of drugs.
  • Maintain accurate resident medical records and ensure current care planning.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on departmental operations to the Administrator.
Program Development and Compliance
  • Develop and maintain nursing policies and procedures in line with best practices and applicable legislation.
  • Engage in nursing research and develop evidence-based policies.
  • Report and document any incidents of abuse or neglect in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • Implement a zero-tolerance policy for bullying or harassment within the workplace.
  • Follow emergency response protocols and participate in practice drills.
  • Ensure high-quality care delivery and a safe working environment for all staff and residents.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and guidelines in all operational aspects.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with a current Certificate of Competence in Ontario.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc.N.)
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Licensed and in good standing with the College of Nurses.
  • A minimum of three years of managerial or supervisory experience in a healthcare setting.
  • At least one year of experience in long-term care.
  • Exceptional planning and management capabilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication proficiency.
  • Ability to supervise a diverse nursing staff effectively.
  • Strong decision-making, time management, and administrative skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Capacity to foster a supportive environment for residents.
