Role Overview:
As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in delivering top-notch pharmaceutical services to our patients. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals eager to gain experience in the healthcare sector while contributing to the smooth operation of the pharmacy. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks, including customer service, medication preparation, inventory oversight, and administrative support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Interaction: Welcome customers, manage phone inquiries, and provide information regarding medications and pharmacy services in a friendly and professional manner.
- Prescription Management: Assist in the processing of prescription orders, which includes data entry, labeling, and packaging under the guidance of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician.
- Medication Preparation: Accurately count, measure, and package prescription medications, adhering to established protocols and safety procedures.
- Inventory Control: Receive and organize incoming shipments of medications and supplies. Monitor stock levels, conduct inventory rotations, and assist with audits as necessary.
- Sanitation and Organization: Ensure the pharmacy area remains clean and organized, including medication shelves and workstations. Properly dispose of expired medications and hazardous materials in compliance with regulations.
- Administrative Duties: Carry out clerical tasks such as filing, faxing, and scanning documents. Assist with processing insurance claims and managing prescription transfers as needed.
- Regulatory Compliance: Follow all relevant laws, regulations, and pharmacy policies, ensuring privacy and confidentiality standards are met.
- Additional Tasks: Support special projects, promotions, and events as directed by pharmacy management.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a pharmacy assistant program or relevant healthcare certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience: Previous experience in a retail or healthcare environment is beneficial but not required. Comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities. Capable of interacting professionally with customers and colleagues.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in tasks such as medication counting and labeling.
- Organizational Skills: Effective at managing multiple tasks and prioritizing workload in a dynamic environment.
- Computer Skills: Basic proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and pharmacy software systems (training will be provided).
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with pharmacy staff and contribute positively to a team-oriented atmosphere.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on pharmacy operational needs.
- This is a part-time role, with typical working hours ranging from 20-24 hours per week.
- The position may require prolonged periods of standing and occasional lifting of moderate-weight items.
- Work shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on pharmacy operational hours.
