Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada DNV Full time

About Us

As a trusted partner for many of the world’s foremost organizations, we leverage our expertise to enhance safety and performance, establish industry standards, and innovate solutions to address global challenges.

About Energy Systems

We assist clients in navigating the intricate transition to a decarbonized and sustainable energy landscape. Our focus is on ensuring that energy systems operate safely and efficiently, utilizing increasingly digital solutions. We also support industries and governments in managing the complex, interconnected transitions occurring both globally and regionally within the energy sector.

About the Role

Are you interested in contributing to a premier renewable energy consulting firm, dedicated to facilitating a fair energy transition and combating climate change?

The Electrical Engineering division at DNV is on the lookout for a Senior Electrical Engineer. The expertise of the Senior Engineer will influence the direction and application of our services, complementing a team of highly skilled Senior and Principal experts who make a significant impact daily in the development, design, and execution of renewable energy and energy transition initiatives.

Our Electrical Engineering team operates at the forefront of the renewables sector, providing technical due diligence and advisory services to a diverse clientele in the North American market and beyond, supporting Independent Engineering (debt and tax equity), M&A transactions, Owner’s Engineering, and Engineering Consulting Services.

In this position, the Senior Electrical Engineer will engage in a broad spectrum of technical tasks, applying their experience and training in electrical power systems, electronics, controls, and instrumentation to support the design, development, and construction of renewable energy and energy transition projects. You will contribute to a dynamic, high-performing team by delivering value to clients, fostering collaboration, driving innovation, and identifying opportunities for team growth and enhancement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a collaborative subject matter expert on electrical engineering projects, authoring and/or reviewing technical reports alongside various internal teams, including Independent Engineering, Mergers & Acquisition advisory, and Owner’s Engineering.
  • Contribute to proposal efforts (scoping and pricing) and manage small to medium-sized projects for Engineering Consulting Services.
  • Review electrical designs and interconnection process components and studies for onshore wind, offshore wind, high voltage substation design, and other elements of the electric system.
  • Conduct or review power system studies such as grounding, reactive power, cable ampacity, and preliminary collection system design using computer software and other methodologies.
  • Provide guidance and training in electrical commissioning, safety, and procedures.
  • Support business development initiatives in North America by engaging in meaningful, expertise-driven discussions with DNV’s key accounts and renewable energy clients.
  • Assist in strategy development, market positioning, and thought leadership through committee engagements, conference participation, and the creation of webinars, guides, standards, whitepapers, and blog posts.
  • Participate in a wide range of field and analytical work, engaging with experts from related turbine, energy analysis, environmental, and civil engineering groups.
What We Offer:
  • Generous paid time off including vacation, sick days, company holidays, and personal days.
  • Multiple medical and dental benefit plans, along with vision benefits.
  • Flexible spending accounts for dependent care, commuter benefits, and company-seeded health savings accounts.
  • Special programs including Employee Assistance Program, identity theft protection, and options for accident and critical illness coverage.
  • Employer-paid, therapist-led virtual care services.
  • Retirement savings plans.
  • Company-provided life insurance and short-term and long-term disability benefits.
  • Tuition assistance for continued education.
  • Consumer discounts and rewards programs.
  • Flexible work schedules with hybrid/remote opportunities.
  • Opportunities for career advancement.

**Benefits may vary based on position, tenure, location, and employee election**

About You

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 7+ years of experience directly involved in renewable energy projects (e.g., wind, solar, battery, hydrogen, and/or power electronics).
  • Familiarity with IEEE, IEC, NEC, and CIGRE standards and guidelines.
  • Experience in electrical system design and construction, including distribution, substation, and electric generation systems, as well as electrical system studies and modeling.
  • Strong writing and communication skills for report writing and conveying technical concepts to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Pre-employment background screening will be conducted.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Willingness to travel domestically (US and Canada) 10-20% of the time, with opportunities for more extensive travel if desired.
  • Knowledge of protection, controls, and SCADA systems.
