We currently have a permanent part-time role available in the Airdrie area, requiring 20 hours of work per week.
Program Overview
The Calgary Alternative Residential Services (CARS) program is designed to assist individuals with developmental disabilities in achieving greater independence through skill development, empowerment, and full societal inclusion, thereby enhancing their quality of life. Our approach emphasizes 'person-centered planning' – where individuals support one another based on their unique needs. Through a self-directed process, individuals are guided in identifying essential support areas that align with their personal aspirations.
Position Overview
The Community Support Worker (CSW) plays a vital role in the services provided by Calgary Alternative Support Services Inc. (CASS). This position empowers clients to cultivate a strong sense of autonomy, make constructive choices, and integrate into their communities while ensuring stability in their daily routines. Responsibilities include establishing professional boundaries, offering emotional support, assisting with daily living skills, and engaging with community resources as outlined in their Individual Support Plan (ISP).
Key Responsibilities:
Client-Focused:
- Foster respectful and professional boundaries while building positive relationships with clients;
- Assist clients in developing and tracking goals as directed by the Coordinator;
- Support individuals in identified areas to enhance their independence within the community, including daily living skills, community engagement, recreational activities, and health management as guided by the client coordinator;
- Maintain a constructive professional relationship with client guardians and other support networks as necessary.
- Comply with CASS Policies & Procedures and specific program expectations as outlined in Operations Manuals;
- Check email communications at the start of each shift;
- Submit necessary paperwork promptly, including:
- Monthly timesheets
- Monthly expense reports
- Hazard Reports
- Incident Reports
- Engage actively in the CASS Health & Safety program, adhering to Health & Safety policies in accordance with CASS guidelines and Alberta OHS legislation;
- Maintain valid certifications in all core training and any additional training required based on client support needs.
- Exemplify and embody CASS values in all interactions with clients, colleagues, and community members;
- Show respect and collaboration with all stakeholders within the CASS organization;
- Exhibit a willingness to provide and receive constructive feedback.
Client: Individuals receiving support through CASS, ensuring that our services align with their needs and goals while prioritizing their safety.
Community Support Coordinators: Responsible for service development, staffing oversight, and maintaining high-quality service delivery for clients, focusing on person-centered planning and strength-based objectives.
Guardians: Individuals appointed to protect and support vulnerable adults, offering various decision-making options from supported decision-making to full guardianship.
Support Network: A group of personal and professional individuals engaged in supporting the client.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Positive approach to various situations;
- Adaptability in communication styles;
- Patience;
- Preferred knowledge in supporting adults with developmental disabilities.
- Post-secondary education in Human Services;
- Current Emergency or Standard First Aid certification, including CPR/AED;
- A satisfactory police information check with a vulnerable sectors search.
- A vehicle and valid driver's license are mandatory;
- Willingness to transport clients as needed.
