Job Overview

As the Residential Construction Estimating Lead, you will oversee the estimating department and ensure the accurate and efficient estimation of project costs across our various residential construction projects. You are responsible for leading a team of estimators, developing comprehensive cost estimates, and collaborating closely with various stakeholders to support project planning and execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of estimators, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Cost Estimation: Oversee the preparation and reviewing of accurate and detailed cost estimates for residential construction projects, including material, labor, and subcontractor costs.
  • Project Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to develop project budgets and monitor costs throughout the construction process, identifying opportunities for cost savings and value engineering.
  • Vendor Management: Establish and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate and refine estimating processes and procedures to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and uncertainties related to project costs and develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure project profitability.
  • Bid Management: Lead the bid management process, including analyzing bid documents, preparing bid packages, and negotiating with vendors and subcontractors to secure favorable pricing and terms.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all cost estimates adhere to company standards and industry best practices, maintaining a high level of accuracy and reliability.
  • Professional Development: Engage in continuous learning and professional development, staying abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years of experience in residential construction estimating, with experience leading estimating teams and delivering high-quality, cost-effective projects.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team to achieve common goals. Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities. Thorough understanding of construction materials, methods, building codes, and industry standards. Negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Tools and Software: Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and PowerPoint) and estimating software (BuildPro, SupplyPro, and NewStar).
