Providence Health Care is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Nurse Leader/Nurse Educator to join our team. As a key member of our nursing leadership team, you will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of a designated nursing unit or service, supervising staff, and providing clinical support to nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate the day-to-day activities of the assigned unit or service, including supervising staff, monitoring and following up on work, and providing critical input on employee performance.
- Act as a clinical resource to nursing staff, students, and other members of the interdisciplinary team, providing guidance on clinical practice issues and troubleshooting concerns.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for nursing staff and patients/families, including assessing learning needs and developing proposals for new programs.
- Provide formal education to other nurses and advise on nursing practice, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs within the clinical area.
- Coordinate and prepare educational activities, including coaching staff in clinical nursing skills and behaviors, and participating in the design, implementation, and evaluation of hospital-wide educational programs.
- Review policies, procedures, and reference materials for nursing staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team, and make recommendations for changes.
- Provide clinical consultation to internal and external healthcare professionals in the area of expertise, and develop, implement, and evaluate patient education programs.
- Perform direct nursing care, including physical assessment and administering medications and treatments, and monitor patient progress and adjust the plan of care to ensure patient outcomes.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and provide input regarding patient and family progress, and identify trends in patient outcomes and recommend program modifications to the Patient Care Manager.
- Support research activities and participate in the development of quality improvement initiatives, and support nursing practices across the organization through representation on hospital-wide and community committees.
- Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant, with qualifications required of staff nurse in clinical area, plus three years of recent related experience in clinical specialty, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to coach and supervise, and demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service.
- Ability to match skills of staff with clinical needs, and ability to identify learning needs and develop educational programs.
- Ability to provide and/or develop resource materials, including educational materials, and ability to demonstrate knowledge of adult education principles.
- Ability to teach and lead groups, and ability to deal with and promote change.
- Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team, and ability to apply decision-making and analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and ability to organize and prioritize work independently.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, and ability to operate related equipment, including computers.
