Department Overview

The Civil Engineering Department at BCIT offers an accredited four-year Bachelor of Engineering degree program recognized by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. Our flexible program structure allows students to obtain a nationally recognized Diploma of Technology after two years. The primary objective is to produce highly skilled, practically-oriented civil technologists and engineers who are eligible for professional registration. This goal is supported by strong industry connections, leading to excellent employment outcomes for our graduates.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Teaching courses related to structural and timber engineering.
  • Assisting in the instruction of additional civil engineering courses as needed.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • Current Professional Engineer registration in Canada or the U.S.A.
  • A graduate degree in structural engineering or civil engineering.
  • A minimum of four years of relevant design or construction experience in civil engineering within North America.
  • Industry knowledge in timber engineering, construction management, and/or geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
  • Proficiency in current civil engineering design software.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior teaching experience.
  • Experience in mentoring or training technologists or junior engineers.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $63,150 - $110,238 per annum, prorated based on the percentage and term of appointment. Compensation is determined by education, experience, and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
