Job Summary:

Fraser Health Authority is seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in the Operating Room. As a Registered Nurse in Surgical Services, you will provide direct nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest level of patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients undergoing surgical procedures.
  • Coordinate and provide nursing care to patients according to physician and anaesthetist orders, adhering to established standards and hospital policies.
  • Participate in identifying and reducing risk factors that may impact the patient and/or healthcare team.
  • Act as an advocate to protect and promote the patient's right to autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity, and access to information.
  • Modify care as needs change, initiating immediate treatment as required.
  • Obtain, check, set up, and position supplies, instruments, and equipment required for surgery, ensuring that instruments and equipment are in working order.
  • Follow standardized count policy and provide appropriate documentation.
  • Perform scrub and circulation duties within the Operating Room according to prescribed procedures and protocols.
  • Collect information from a variety of sources using skills of observation, communication, and physical assessment to enable the provision of appropriate nursing care.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and research by identifying patient care issues and collecting data.
  • Participate as an active member on nursing and hospital committees and councils for improvement of patient care and/or work environment.
  • Participate in the orientation and ongoing education of nursing staff and students by providing information and acting as a preceptor and mentor as appropriate.
  • Participate in the evaluation of patient care programs, techniques, standards, and procedures by providing feedback about effectiveness and patient care outcomes.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff by adhering to established safety and emergency practices and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • One (1) year's recent relevant clinical nursing experience in the designated clinical area, and completion of post-graduate coursework and/or certification applicable to the designated clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
