We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Project Director - Construction to lead our construction management team in delivering complex capital projects. The successful candidate will have a strong background in construction management, program management, and technical expertise in the rail sector.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership and technical construction expertise to ensure the successful delivery of multi-billion-dollar rail projects.
- Develop and implement effective construction management strategies to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Lead and manage a team of construction professionals to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure that construction aspects of the program are technically sound, evidence-based, and consistent with client and stakeholders' priorities, requirements, and expectations.
- Provide oversight of all activities, outputs, and outcomes related to construction management and administration.
- Identify opportunities to improve the delivery experience of the Project Delivery Teams through coaching and mentoring of the on-site teams.
- Develop and implement a proactive Health and Safety culture within the team.
- Manage the creation of a secure online daily field log, including photo documentation, to track daily progress, significant events, milestones, and safety.
- Support the development of mitigation and/or incentives to reduce risks associated with the utility and construction interfaces.
- Lead negotiations with third parties to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Develop and deliver persuasive and engaging presentations to a wide range of audiences in the industry.
- Drive critical decision-making on highly technical and complex issues related to construction progress.
- Ensure the resolution of claims and dispute submissions initiated by the contractor (potential or actual).
- Define the success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout the project and program life cycle.
- Monitor and manage project staff performance to ensure excellence in results and a focus on performance objectives.
Experience: Minimum of 18 years of experience in the rail sector, with a strong background in construction management and program management.
Education: Bachelor's degree or Diploma in an Engineering or Construction Management field.
Licenses OR Certifications: Holding recognized certification in an area of specialty as needed.
Skills and Competencies- Detailed understanding of construction methodology, innovative delivery methods, technology, planning, delivery, and site logistics.
- Commercial understanding of construction contract law and multiple contract types.
- Experience leading large, multi-disciplinary teams.
- Mastery of tools and metrics needed to evaluate project performance.
- In-depth knowledge of applicable construction-related software.
- Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
