Probation Period:

Education Required:

  • Current BC College of Teachers Full Practicing Certificate; Bachelor of Education.
  • Valid First Aid certification.

Experience Required:

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience working with children or youth.

Overtime Status:
Non-exempt.

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher, the Early Childhood Educator will nurture and support the cognitive and social growth of young learners. This role involves teaching with creativity and patience, while also developing engaging educational plans and activities to inspire children.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Implement the Ministry of Education Primary Curriculum.
  2. Manage the daily operations of the classroom.
  3. Assist students in integrating into the classroom and school environment.
  4. Provide individual or small group support to students with assignments and learning concepts under the supervision of a classroom teacher.
  5. Support the school library or office and undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Lead Teacher.
  6. Evaluate student needs and, if necessary, create an Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  7. Engage in team meetings, IEP development, and staff meetings as required.
  8. Collaborate with educational bodies regarding program delivery.
  9. Maintain regular communication with parents/caregivers.
  10. Advocate for the educational needs of children and families.
  11. Work collaboratively with staff and educational departments.
  12. Participate in meetings, training, and professional development sessions relevant to job functions.
  13. Support the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  14. Contribute to the ongoing success of the organization by performing additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of local First Nations history, culture, language, and traditions.
  • Familiarity with Saxon Math and Read Well programs is advantageous.
  • Strong foundation in Elementary Education with specialized training in Reading and Numeracy.
  • Recent teaching experience is preferred.
  • Commitment to Literacy and Numeracy development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software at an intermediate/advanced level.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Elementary school environment with occasional field trips.
  • Awareness of sensitivity, confidentiality, and urgency in requests while balancing other commitments.
  • Travel may be necessary.
  • Non-standard working hours may be required to meet community needs.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Medical Practitioner Report.
  • Pediatric First Aid certification.
  • Food-Safe certification.
  • Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Must pass a Criminal Records Check.
  • Must possess a valid BC Driver's License.
  • Must have access to a reliable vehicle or utilize a company vehicle.
