Markham, Ontario, Canada Syncopate Financial Leadership Professional... Full time

About Us

Syncopate Financial Leadership Professional Corporation is a financial advisory services firm that bridges the gap between bookkeepers and traditional accounting firms.

We specialize in providing financial leadership, accounting, and tax services to entrepreneurs and small to mid-sized owner-managed businesses, as well as not-for-profit organizations.

Our Approach to Teamwork

We cultivate strong, trusting relationships with our clients and colleagues, and provide opportunities for continual personal and career growth.

We believe that inclusion of diverse perspectives is essential to achieving long-term, systemic change. That's why we strive to attract and develop individuals who reflect a broad spectrum of diversity, including (but by no means limited to) racial, ethnic, gender identity, and socioeconomic dimensions.

The Role

As a Financial Leadership Professional, you will work in a cloud-based software environment, managing and delivering financial leadership, accounting, and tax services to our clients, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and professional standards.

You will work closely with, and supervise, members of the Syncopate team, including entry-level staff who may have little to no accounting experience. Your role will be to provide training, development, and evaluation of your team members, balancing the need for success of each employee, client, and Syncopate.

Responsibilities

  • Lead client-facing engagement teams to complete engagements for financial leadership, accounting, and tax services, including fractional controllership, budgeting and cash forecasting, financial reporting, internal controls and process improvement, accounting and bookkeeping, payroll, sales tax, and corporate income tax.
  • Deliver industry and technical expertise through client interactions, reports, technical work, management presentations, and high-quality deliverables.
  • Manage a portfolio of clients, understanding their business, key risks, and ways to deliver added value, ensuring clients' needs are met and that relationships and accounts grow and develop.
  • Accountable for engagement planning and scheduling, as well as project financials, including budgets, WIP, timely billing, collection, and variance recognition.
  • Maintain quality control and apply specialized knowledge to anticipate, identify, and address issues relevant to the client's business, financial entries, and reports.
  • Network in the local business community, consider business development opportunities, and contribute to the preparation and delivery of competitive proposals to meet client needs.
  • Mentor, motivate, and coach team members towards professional and personal development by setting clear expectations, providing feedback, and conducting performance reviews.

Requirements

  • Accounting designation with 4 to 6 years of relevant public accounting experience.
  • Experience as a public accounting Senior or Manager, or financial reporting, tax, internal controls, and process improvement expertise.
  • Respected team leader with coaching and mentorship skills, skilled at delegating, and willing to be hands-on in a small team environment.
  • Skilled in all relevant tools of the profession, including large and small accounting systems, Excel, and online collaboration software.

Competencies

  • Accountability: Cares deeply about getting results, stays on top of all responsibilities, and consistently meets deadlines.
  • Coachability and willingness to coach others: Considers themselves a continual learner in all aspects of life, both professionally and personally. Is willing to learn from anyone regardless of their position or status. Is patient and willing to share their knowledge with others on the team and with clients.
  • Integrity: Embodies courage and responsibility. Acts honourably, even when no one is watching. Is trusted and extends trust to others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: Actively listens. Seeks first to understand. Communicates their message clearly and assertively. Takes a collaborative approach to their work. Respects diversity of opinion and experience.

What to Expect

In this full-time role, you will work 40 hours per week, primarily from home. Interaction with coworkers and client personnel takes place mainly over video calls, email, and online messaging. You will be provided with a laptop, docking station, and two monitors. Working from home, you will provide your own desk, chair, keyboard, mouse, and high-speed internet connection.

The starting salary range for this position is $98,000 to $120,000 on an annualized basis, depending on the candidate's level of experience, education, and location within the GTA. All employees are entitled to 4 weeks annual vacation time off per our Vacation Policy. After three months of employment, you will be entitled to our Health Care and Wellness Spending account, valued at $2,000 annually (pro-rated in your first year).
