Job Title: Diet Technician

Baycrest is seeking a skilled Diet Technician to join our team. As a Diet Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the nutritional needs of our residents are met.

Responsibilities:
  • Modify and monitor meals in accordance with diets and changes in health status, as recommended by the Clinical Dietitian or physician.
  • Provide, review, and reinforce diet instruction to residents, families, and caregivers.
  • Conduct audits to ensure accuracy of diet orders, preference lists, and trays.
  • Observe changes in eating habits and bring any changes or concerns to the attention of the Clinical Dietitian.
  • Provide an introduction/overview of the food services system to residents, families, and caregivers.
  • Participate in departmental monthly QA, projects, and collaborate with departmental quality and service improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • Graduated from an approved Dietary Technician diploma program, Food & Nutrition Management, or recognized equivalent.
  • Member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM).
  • Completion of a Food Handler's certification.
  • Two (2) years related clinical experience in a large healthcare facility.
  • Previous experience working with a geriatric population would be an asset.
  • Experience in direct care, nutrition screening, diet modification, and patient education.
  • Experience in a computerized diet office environment.
  • Intermediate computer skills and the ability to work with Microsoft Office software.
  • Knowledge of Computrition systems.
  • Knowledge of Meditech software would be an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organizational and analytical skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate with geriatric patients who may have varying stages of dementia.
