Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nurse

Key Responsibilities:
- Utilizes established Nursing Standards and Processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care effectively.
- Provides educational support to patients and their families.
- Makes informed clinical decisions, exercising sound judgment to deliver optimal nursing care within the available resources.
- Aligns practice with the Hospital's Mission and Nursing Philosophy.
- Engages in the application of a theory-based approach to nursing care.
- Contributes to the development of Nursing and Unit objectives.
- Conducts Mental Health assessments and provides care for both adult and pediatric psychiatric patients with diverse diagnoses.
- Responds to emergency situations as required.
- Administers psychiatric medications while monitoring for side effects and maintaining appropriate blood levels.
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
Experience:
- Recent experience in assessing, treating, monitoring, and evaluating patients across all age groups with various psychiatric diagnoses in a collaborative team setting.
- A minimum of one year of experience in mental health and addictions or Pediatric Nursing.
Skills and Abilities:
- Exemplary therapeutic communication and interviewing skills tailored to mental health contexts.
- Strong orientation towards client and family service.
- Proficient in managing psychiatric emergencies.
- Ability to interpret and explain current Mental Health Legislation.
- In-depth knowledge of person-centered care and the recovery model.
- Experience in administering psychiatric medications.
- Effective patient education skills for both adults and children/adolescents and their families.
- Fosters positive interpersonal relationships with all team members.
- Demonstrates conflict resolution skills and accountability.
- Exhibits strong organizational capabilities.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledgeable in the operation and care of all mechanical equipment necessary for patient care.
- Maintains successful working relationships, interacting with individuals in a courteous, professional, and reassuring manner, both in person and over the phone.
- Exhibits behavior consistent with the hospital's mission and core values.
