Forge Recruitment is partnering with a national, multi-service law firm to find a skilled Urban Planning Specialist to join their growing Real Estate and Land Use Development Planning Practice Group in downtown Toronto.


Key Responsibilities
As an Urban Planning Specialist, you will work closely with the team to:

  1. Coordinate and analyze development proposals, including conducting research and policy analysis;
  2. Prepare and submit land use planning applications, including reporting documentation for municipal approval;
  3. Provide subject matter expertise related to land use planning;
  4. Understand and determine the applicability of relevant local, provincial, and federal government regulations on an individual project basis;
  5. Manage day-to-day file management, including coordinating and communicating with lawyers and consultants, and on-going liaising with clients;
  6. Conduct due diligence reviews on corporate transactions involving real estate with respect to a property's land use policy context, compliance with regulations and policies, and analysis of development or intensification potential;
  7. Manage projects and consultation with stakeholders and complete reporting for land use planning projects;
  8. Assist other department team members, including support with Local Planning Appeal Tribunals and in particular, the Ontario Land Tribunal, as required;
  9. Assist with special projects and assignments, as required.

Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will possess 3+ years of municipal land use planning experience, including with development and approvals processes in Ontario (public or private sector), University education in Urban Planning. You have obtained or are working toward obtaining full membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute/Canadian Institute of Planners. You possess excellent communication both written and oral, and excellent negotiation skills.
