High Voltage Electrician Position Overview

Spark Power, a reputable leader in the energy sector across North America, is seeking a High Voltage Electrician to enhance our operations. This role involves overseeing the installation, upkeep, and repair of electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution systems and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and maintain electrical apparatus in generator units, substations, collector stations, and powerhouses.
  • Interpret schematics, circuit diagrams, and manufacturer specifications to establish wiring layouts for both new and existing installations, including splicing and connecting high voltage cables.
  • Maintain and install electrical distribution equipment, such as transformers, generators, voltage regulators, switches, circuit breakers, and associated components.
  • Conduct inspections and tests on installed electrical systems to identify faults and ensure proper operation using voltmeters, ammeters, and other testing instruments.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations set by the company and clients.
  • Ensure all electrical installations meet applicable standards and trade practices.
  • Complete maintenance documentation and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Manage material procurement for projects and daily operational needs.
  • Be prepared to travel to remote sites and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Diagnose and rectify faults in electrical and electronic systems, replacing defective components as necessary.
  • Install, replace, and repair lighting fixtures and electrical control and distribution systems.
  • Test circuit continuity to ensure system compatibility and safety, making repairs or replacements as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Journeyman Electrician certification and relevant safety training.
  • PSE designation is advantageous.
  • Experience in industrial electrical construction and maintenance.
  • Professional demeanor with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within teams.
  • Capability to work at various heights and endure prolonged periods of standing, crouching, and kneeling.
  • Knowledge of Canadian electrical code and Alberta Utility Code, along with strong mathematical skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work in remote locations, including shift work.
