Position Overview: Manitoulin Health Centre is seeking two full-time Emergency Department Nurse Practitioners to join our dedicated team at our hospital locations.

Role Summary: The Emergency Department Nurse Practitioner (ED NP) operates as an autonomous advanced practice nurse, engaging in an expanded nursing role within a collaborative healthcare model.

Collaboration: In partnership with emergency physicians, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for managing, directing, and delivering comprehensive care to a specific patient demographic within a multidisciplinary team setting.

Requirements: Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage acute illnesses, injuries, and exacerbations of chronic conditions within the Nurse Practitioner scope of practice.
  • Assist with patients categorized as CTAS level 1, 2, and 3 under physician oversight.
  • Issue medical orders to nursing staff to execute the care plan.
  • Determine the necessity for and order diagnostic tests from an approved list, interpreting results within the Nurse Practitioner scope.
  • Provide clinical leadership and support to Emergency Room personnel, fostering teamwork and assisting nursing staff as needed.
  • Act as a Super User for the Meditech Expanse Emergency Department and Order Management Module.
  • Maintain effective relationships with external entities, including law enforcement and local health teams.
  • Support the Chemotherapy department as required.
  • Participate as a member of the MHC Emergency Department Committee.
  • Promote a safe and healthy work environment in line with occupational health and safety standards.
  • Engage in departmental quality improvement initiatives and risk management programs.
  • Flexibility to work across multiple sites as organizational needs arise.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in Acute Care / Emergency Department settings is essential.
  • Self-driven with robust health assessment and clinical skills.
  • Experience with mental health and substance use disorders is advantageous.
  • Current certification in TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) and triage training per eCTAS guidelines.
