Manitoulin Health Centre is seeking two full-time Advanced Practice Nurses specializing in Emergency Care to join our team at our hospital locations.

The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in the Emergency Department operates as a self-directed professional, engaging in an expanded nursing role within a collaborative healthcare model. In partnership with emergency physicians, the APN is responsible for managing, directing, and delivering comprehensive care to a specific patient demographic in a multidisciplinary team setting.

VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute illnesses, injuries, and exacerbations of chronic conditions within the Nurse Practitioner scope of practice and relevant medical directives.
- Oversee patients presenting to the Emergency Department with lower acuity levels.
- Collaborate with physicians for higher acuity cases.
- Analyze and interpret patient histories, symptoms, and diagnostic information to formulate appropriate diagnoses.
- Provide medical directives to nursing staff to execute care plans.
- Determine the necessity for diagnostic tests and interpret results within the Nurse Practitioner scope.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation for all patient interactions.
- Coordinate with on-call physicians for issues beyond the NP scope.
- Support the hospitalist role by liaising with physicians.
- Offer clinical leadership and support to Emergency Department staff.
- Act as a Super User for the Meditech Expanse Emergency Department and Order Management Module.
- Foster positive relationships with external partners, including law enforcement and local health teams.
- Assist in the satellite Chemotherapy department as needed.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to educate other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives and risk management programs.
- Flexibility to work across different sites as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in the RN Extended Class.
- Experience in Acute Care or Emergency Department settings is essential.
- Strong leadership, critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Professional liability protection as mandated by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Self-motivated with robust health assessment and clinical skills.
- Experience with mental health and substance use disorders is advantageous.
- Current certifications in ACLS, NRP, TNCC, ATCN, CAN, and PALS.
- Triage training in accordance with eCTAS guidelines.
