Finance Leadership

The Finance team at UNB consists of approximately 65 professionals dedicated to steering and enhancing strategic and operational planning for the university's financial framework. This division reports directly to the Vice President of Administration and Finance and serves various governance committees.

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the AVP Finance and Comptroller, the Head of Financial Operations will oversee Student Accounts & Receivables; Accounts Payable & Disbursements; Payroll and Procurement. To excel in this role, the individual must possess strong human resource capabilities and a comprehensive understanding of generally accepted accounting principles. The responsibilities include:

  • Leading a skilled and committed team of professionals to ensure the continuous, effective, and efficient operation of the department while fostering their growth through clear goal-setting, feedback, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Supervising the processing of critical financial transactions at the university, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of accounting records and transactions; addressing and resolving accounting discrepancies; conducting reconciliations, audits, and adjustments as necessary; and coordinating with external auditors when required.
  • Promoting efficiency and process simplification in the organization's financial operations by utilizing technological solutions to enhance capacity.
  • Designing, implementing, and monitoring internal control systems and processes within payroll, student accounts, procurement, and payables to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Coordinating the ongoing development and effective management of the university's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, working closely with various university departments.
  • Ensuring the relevance and accuracy of information on the department's website, including timely updates of student fees, policies, and procedures.
  • Performing additional duties as required or assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • 10+ years of experience in progressively responsible roles, ideally within a complex, multi-stakeholder, unionized environment.
  • 5+ years of supervisory and leadership experience, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
