Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse in Palliative Care include:

Deliver nursing care to clients, both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, focusing on quality symptom management and end-of-life discussions. Evaluate, consult, plan, implement, and assess the care requirements of clients facing life-threatening illnesses in various settings. Assess the physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of clients. Offer support to clients, families, and caregivers dealing with the challenges associated with advanced illnesses. Advocate for a palliative approach that enhances the quality of life for clients and their families while alleviating suffering. Engage in designated committees and approved research initiatives as assigned.

About the Facility:

The facility is a long-term care establishment that provides a supportive environment for seniors with complex health needs. It offers a range of services, including respite care and community programs.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the relevant nursing regulatory body. A minimum of two years of recent experience in palliative care or a comparable combination of education and experience. Additional training in palliative care is considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proven expertise in nursing practice related to palliative care. In-depth understanding of best practices and the progression of diseases relevant to palliative care. Ability to conduct nursing assessments and interventions pertinent to the palliative patient population. Competence in utilizing various care approaches and systems. Skill in performing focused assessments and developing care plans based on comprehensive evaluations. Capacity to anticipate and address potential complications in care. Proficiency in using medical equipment and maintaining competency in care-related procedures. Aptitude for accurate documentation of client care in accordance with organizational standards. Expertise in managing palliative symptoms effectively. Ability to facilitate goals of care discussions, ensuring alignment with patient priorities. Competence in practicing autonomously within the scope of nursing standards relevant to palliative care.
