Position Overview
Cyient Inc. is seeking a qualified and experienced Overhead Line Design Engineer with a Professional Engineer License. The ideal candidate will possess relevant experience in the design of distribution pole lines, FTTX, FTTC, and long-haul/interoffice fiber MDU projects.
This role will report to the Engineering Manager and requires self-motivated, technically adept individuals eager to enhance their design skills for the review and approval of aerial permitting and OSP telecommunications design initiatives. Under minimal supervision, the Overhead Line Engineer will conduct pole loading calculations utilizing tools such as Spidacalc and Quickpole, and will create permit drawings using AutoCAD. The engineer will also engage in research, interpret field data, land base maps, civil blueprints, survey documents, and field sketches. Additionally, they will verify the accuracy of information on maps and drawings against network facility records and data from governmental and geographical resources, including field-collected measurements, to develop comprehensive pole line designs that support FTTH projects, business-as-usual activities, relocations, and MDU projects.
Position Requirements:
- Must hold a Professional Engineer License in Ontario.
- Experience in civil, structural, mechanical engineering/construction, architecture (preferred), and telecommunications sectors (strongly preferred).
- Strong understanding of basic computer concepts and technology. Proficiency in Quickpole, SpidaCalc, OCalc, and PLS CAD is essential.
- Experience with aerial communications line and pole inspections or design, adhering to CSA 22.3 No. 1-20 Overhead Systems and O.Reg. 22/04 guidelines.
- Familiarity with fiber backbone (F1) and distribution networks (F2), as well as high-level designs for 5G/Smart City projects is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of permitting processes (highway, railroad, city, county, etc.) is also greatly valued.
Skills & Experience:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, OSP Design, People & Project Management, and Technical Project Management.
